This is the official website of Lord Carter's Review of NHS Pathology Services.

Lord Carter of Coles was appointed to lead an Independent Review of NHS pathology services in September 2005. The Report of the Review of NHS Pathology Services in England was published on 2 August 2006.

In response the Department of Health set out plans to reform pathology services, including £1million funding to support 12 pilot projects to road-test the recommendations of the review and to gather improved data on activity, cost and performance of pathology services. Lord Carter was asked to oversee the pilot projects.

The Review has spent the past year establishing the evidence base for reforming NHS pathology services, including collecting detailed information on activity, costs, quality and service levels from the 12 pilot sites, and modelling different options for future configurations.
